The Can-SOLVE CKD Network is seeking up to two kidney scientists interested in joining the network’s leadership.

Can-SOLVE CKD is one of five national chronic disease networks established through Canada’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) and funded by CIHR and more than 30 partners. The network is currently undertaking 18 research projects and four core infrastructures focused on improving CKD diagnosis, developing new treatments, and determining how best to deliver innovative patient-centred care.

Currently, Can-SOLVE CKD is co-led by Dr. Adeera Levin and Dr. Braden Manns. To promote network sustainability and succession planning, we are seeking to expand our leadership capacity by recruiting one or two motivated kidney scientists, one of whom is mid-career. The individual(s) will join the network’s leadership team and work with the co-leads to assume a graded responsibility for the network’s activities.

Responsibilities and potential tasks include:

  • ongoing leadership, including interacting with and providing guidance to Can-SOLVE CKD staff
  • attendance at the annual in-person Can-SOLVE CKD meeting, weekly leadership team calls, quarterly Steering Committee calls, and other teleconferences as required
  • championing patient engagement within Can-SOLVE CKD, including ongoing support for the work of the Patient Council and the Indigenous People’s Engagement and Research Council
  • problem solving, including ongoing engagement with health care policy-makers across Canada
  • facilitating the work of project and core infrastructure leads
  • having a critical role in creating a sustainability strategy for the network

The ideal candidate would be a nephrologist and motivated kidney scientist (one mid-career) with skills in clinical or translational research who has significant protected time for research. Excellent communication skills and an empathetic demeanor are key attributes.
